Hector Caspian Montague

Basic Facts
full name: Hector Caspian Montague
name meanings and origins:Hector: Latinized form of Greek ‘Εκτωρ (Hektor), which was derived from ‘εκτωρ (hektor) "holding fast", ultimately from εχω (echo) meaning "to hold, to possess". In Greek legend Hector was one of the Trojan champions who fought against the Greeks. Caspian: Used by author C. S. Lewis for a character in his 'Chronicles of Narnia' series. Prince Caspian first appears in the fourth book, where he is the rightful king of Narnia driven into exile by his evil uncle Miraz. Lewis probably based the name on the Caspian Sea, which was named for the city of Qazvin, which was itself named for the ancient Cas tribe. Montague: French surname meaning "pointed mountain."
nicknames and aliases: Simply either "Hector" or "Montague" will do. Hector detests nicknames, and fancies his own name is short enough as it is, without any gits trying to shorten it to one syllable. How lazy can one be, after all?
date of birth:31 December 2005
gender: Male

Magical
wand: 15 3/4 inches, Birch wood, Ashwinder Ash core
bloodline: Pure-blood
patronus: Raven. Representative of introspection, courage, self-knowledge, and magic. It symbolizes change in consciousness and is the mark of a shape shifter. Also a symbol of a trickster, teacher, or hoarder, and of healing, initiation, protection, and transformation.
animagus: None
other abilities: None

Background
class status: Bourgeoisie. Either those of names of well-repute, old noble or prestigious families, who may not be as financially well off as the "old money," but are still doing quite well for themselves, more than a cut above the rest, or those who are financially well off, but lack the social status of the true Upper Class. Among Pure-bloods, the more traditional families expect daughters to marry well, either in their class or a class above, and sons are expected to maintain family tradition and work to bring the family wealth or status up. In the case of the Montagues, they have the social status of the old families, and given Marcus Montague's Quidditch career, are on the financial brink of breaking the next barrier... if he doesn't squander all his money away on booze and girls, that is.
nationality: English
place of birth: Just outside of Bristol, Somerset, England. Bristol is a city, unitary authority and ceremonial county in South West England; it is also one of the centres of culture, employment and education in the region. From its earliest days, its prosperity has been linked to that of the Port of Bristol, the commercial port, which was in the city centre but has now moved to the Severn estuary coast at Avonmouth and Portbury. In more recent years the economy has been built on the aerospace industry, and the city centre docks have been regenerated as a centre of heritage and culture. It is one of England's core cities and the most populous city in South West England. It received a royal charter in 1155 and was granted county status in 1373.
residence: The Montague Estate, a testament to the status of the Montague family, fallen into disrepair and needing a facelift.

Family
father: Marcus Herbert Montague [1] [2] (b. 31 July 1978, Pure-blood, Slytherin, Quidditch player and captain, good but distant relationship.)
mother: Melinda Marie Bobbin, deceased [1] [2] (b. 7 September 1981, d. 1 July 2012, Pure-blood, Slytherin, Apothecary heiress/owner, close relationship while she was alive.)
siblings: None
other notable family members and relations:
family history:

Relationships
friends:
rivals: Has a bit of an antagonistic relationship with Scorpius Malfoy, as well as what is mostly so with Sunshine MacMillan (though they have their ups and downs)
sexual orientation: Heterosexual, and very much an avid fan of the female sex.
turn ons: Long hair, particularly if it is dark, bright eyes, a pretty smile, long legs, an appreciation of poetry and/or literature, confidence
turn offs: Short hair, shrill voices, girls who are too thin or too fat, insecurity, lies and liars, clinginess
past relationships: somewhat extensive, if one might call them "relationships." Hector keeps his escapades to himself, but he has, in fact, dated extensively, and not much to his family's pleasure -- sometimes associating with less-than-desirables. As far as a 'relationship' proper, however, or anything resembling love, Hector has never experienced that sort of thing, having sworn it off after his mother's death so many years ago.
first kiss: Several years ago, with a half-blood whose name he will not mention around certain circles
first sexual encounter:
amortentia smells to him/her like:

Appearance
height: between 6' and 6'1", and will, in time, get to 6'2" to 6'3"
weight: 155 lbs, or will get there, in time
build: Tall, very lean
hair: Dark blond to brown, varies in length
eyes: Light blue
face and complexion: Pale, though certainly not as pale as most other pure-bloods, he will always contend. In fact, Hector's taken pains going outside to avoid looking as pale as that.
defining marks:
defining scents: Bergamot notes with honeysuckle and faint hawthorn and sandalwood, nutmeg and cedar.
wand hand:
voice:
dress style: Dark, brooding, something like that
etcetera: Hector is always with a locket that belonged to his mother on his person, usually in his pocket. Don't ask. He also has her wedding ring on a gold chain he always wears.
general appearance: Hector is a young man whose appearance could best begin to be described as "polished," though it is undeniably more than that. With blue eyes the colour of the sky, elegantly raised cheekbones, and summer tanned skin that is smooth and unmarred, making him stand out from many of his paler classmates, his looks no doubt come from a combination of his tall Anglo-Saxon father and his pretty light-eyed mother.
His height, taller than the vast majority of his classmates, and which will approach 6'2" as he gets older, is a thing he fancies, finding it most suited for his Quidditch Keeping duties. Hector has exceptional posture, and a gait of self-importance such that his steps echo with excessive confidence as he walks. Raised in a wealthy home, he is used to only the finest things, and this extends as well to clothing. Hector dresses well, carries himself well, and keeps himself impeccably clean.
His best feature, however, according to Hector himself, is his hair. He spends an almost inhuman amount of time styling it, being quite vane about it – and really, the entirety of his appearance in general.

general personality: An Introverted Intuitive Thinking Perceiving personality type, according to Myers-Briggs, Hector lives in a world of theoretical possibilities. He values knowledge above all else, and his mind is constantly working to generate new theories, or to prove or disprove existing theories. He lives primarily inside his own mind, having the ability to analyze difficult problems, identify patterns, and come up with logical explanations. He highly values intelligence and the ability to apply logic to theories to find solutions, though he can be prone to absent-mindedness, and somewhat underachieving in matters of academics. Hector hates to work on routine things - he would much prefer to build complex theoretical solutions, and leave the implementation of the system to others. He approaches problems and theories with enthusiasm and skepticism, ignoring existing rules and opinions and defining his own approach to the resolution. In most things, he is extremely bright, and able to be objectively critical in his analysis.
When Hector believes that one of his firmly held beliefs has been violated or challenged, he will undoubtedly take a very rigid stance. He is naturally shy when it comes to meeting new people, though he tries to mask this with an intolerant, standoffish appearance. On the other hand, Hector is very self-confident and gregarious around people he knows well, or when discussing theories which he fully understands. Hector is very independent, unconventional, and original. He does not truly place much value on traditional goals such as popularity and security, and has a complex character, tending to be restless and temperamental.
Hector has always had a problem with self-aggrandizement and social rebellion, which interferes with his creative potential. His Feeling side is his least developed trait, and he often has difficulty giving the warmth and support that is sometimes necessary in intimate relationships. He has yet to realize the value of attending to other people's feelings, and may become overly critical and sarcastic with others. He is also generally negative and cynical.
The fact is that Hector is a product of his genetics, almost to a fault, and not just on the matter of appearance. Conniving and cunning, but patient, he knows his good breeding is a thing that he can use to an advantage, and cannot imagine his life otherwise. He is, moreover, a volatile person. Not merely mercurial – but fluctuating, histrionic, unreliable, and disproportional. That which has cosmic implications calls for cosmic reactions. A person with an inflated sense of self-import, reacts with exaggeration to threats, greatly inflated by his imagination and by his personal mythology. He is a man of the extremes and only of the extremes. Only through his mother's careful tutelage in his early years was he able to learn to efficiently suppress or hide his feelings or reactions – and this has served him beyond measure. But this tutelage was cut short by his mother's untimely death, and so her positive influence was also cut short.
Hector is inherently flawed in his character, but the manner in which he carries himself covers this up handily. Make no mistake, however: he is not particularly apt at being a good human being. He believes firmly that he is unique and that he has a mission to fulfill, a destined life. It is is thinking that his own biography is part of Wizardingkind's legacy, spun by a cosmic plot which constantly thickens. And such a life, naturally, deserves only the most serious consideration. To him, every particle of his own existence, every action or inaction, every utterance, creation, or composition, and indeed so much as every inkling of a thought, are bathed in his believed universal significance, driven by his natural instinct to search for patterns. In his own mind, he treads the ideal paths of glory, of achievement, of perfection, or of brilliance. It is all part of a design, a pattern, a plot, which will inexorably lead Hector on to the fulfillment of his task.
Hector is an ardent blood-purist, and his subscribing to this ideology is indeed part of his effort to understand the source of this ubiquitous conviction of uniqueness. He may attribute his sense of direction to God, to history, to society, to culture, to a calling, to his profession, to a value system. But he always does so with a straight face and with deadly seriousness.
He is anything but humble. In fact, Hector is quite the narcissist and undeniable arrogant, no doubt a result of the constant spoiling he received as a child. The only true thing of some permanence in his father's life, he was the subject of much doting and showering with extravagances, though there was never truly any physical or emotional connection, and Hector has lacked the necessary warmth since his mother's death.
His self-importance, belief in a grand design, in an all embracing and all-pervasive pattern mean that Hector is quite apt to fall into flawed opinions. Despite his avowed and proudly expressed rationality, Hector is quite besieged by superstition and prejudice. Above all, he is a captive of the false conviction that his uniqueness destines him to fulfill a mission of cosmic significance. In short: he is arrogant to an almost tragic flaw.

Biography
childhood and pre-hogwarts: Hector Caspian Montague was born on a cold winter night in 2004 to Marcus Herbert Montague and Melinda Marie Montague (nee Bobbin). His father, a Quidditch player and eventually captain, from a notable Pure-blood family dating back generations, would instill in him the values necessary for him to succeed. His mother would facilitate his early education, making sure he was learned in such things as languages and literature and history, and laid the foundation for practical matters, like business and financial affairs. And indeed, she would often dote on him, giving him the emotional warmth most need, while his father was off pursuing his Quidditch career, sending them all manner of material things, building up the family's wealth and such. An only child herself, having often had to deal with loneliness, Melinda decided that her son should have some degree of companionship and someone on whom he could rely once she and her husband had passed, so in 2008, she became pregnant. Four years and two early miscarriages later, she gave birth to a daughter, giving to her family her last full measure of devotion. That wanting to have a perfect family, that selfless giving would be her downfall. Hector saw her take her last loving, selfless breath, saw the life leave her frail form on that quiet spring evening. It changed him. Hector's sister would take her own last breath just five minutes later. Seeing his mother die before his eyes, and his tiny sister lose her life, as well, he had to deal with his first taste of his own mortality; it would change him forever. Hector has loved no one since.
hogwarts years: Hector began Hogwarts with the deaths of his mother and newborn sister buried at the back of his mind, long since hardened in matters of life. He saw the Thestrals as soon as he arrived at the school, something he has never shared with anyone, and his sorting into Slytherin would come shortly thereafter.
Since starting, Hector has proven his cunning in spades, though his typically lackadaisical demeanor when it concerns school and the emotions of those around him have been cause for concern.
Hector's dating life has been extensive, to say the least. His colorful experiences span the spectrum from exciting evenings to restless nights to making out in the astronomy tower to naughty library adventures. He has been loved, hated, lusted after and lusted, and even had things thrown at him in front of scores of people. But Hector is the indifferent, always smirking that infamous smirk of his, running a hand through his hair and brushing it all off.
In his second year, Hector made the Slytherin Quidditch team, as Keeper, and has subsequently been on the team every year. With the coming of Fifth Year came the news that he would be captain of the team. While Hector is very much into the sport, there is a part of him that sinks each time he thinks of it -- for he does not want to become his father, no matter what sort of image he might portray to the contrary.
